Heralds of the Sun

Birds have been called by the poet "Heralds of the Sun". Even before the first ray shines, they are already announcing the birth of a new day. The sunlight then casts away the darkness.

In this drawing herald birds are of two kinds: one earthly, flame colored, material, and one symbolic and fiery. Both are engaged in a chase against dark crawling caterpillars that search for a way to climb onto the blooming white lily, and spoil it.

The white lily is an ancient symbol of purity of thoughts, of feminine nobleness and fertility. Thus the lily is protected from destruction by a symbolic fiery phoenix appearing between the trees like the rising sun.
